Review

WinSCP is one the best open source projects to make secure transfers between servers and from a client's computer to a server. It works using the best encrypted communication protocols, like SFTP, SCP and SSH.

When using Linux, and also to anyone who is a web or file server administrator, it's very common to need remote access to the computer. This is possible without hassles after installing and enabling the SSH service on the local computer.
Once you have this service installed, you can use WinSCP to connect to the remote computer and send/receive files.

But that's not all. With WinSCP you can do a lot of things, like edit files directly on the remote computer using an internal editor, you can copy, move or erase files and entire directory structures (locally and remotely), launch PuTTY (an external program from the same developer to gain console access), set file and directory permissions recursively and many more.

WinSCP has a very user-friendly interface, you can have quick access to every option you need.
Advantages
  • It uses secure protocols when available (SCP, SSH, SFTP). If you don't have access to secure protocols, you can still use FTP.
Disadvantages
  • I haven't seen any disadvantages using this software.
