Review
WinSCP is an open source SFTP client and FTP client. SFTP means secure shell (SSH) file transfer protocol. Common people knows almost nothing about security. File transfer can be a trap if it is done in an insecure way. The main function of WinSCP is the secure file transfer between computers. Even if the remote computer is a linux/unix machine. It offers file manager functionality. As its name says, it uses Secure Shell (SSH) and supports legacy SCP protocol.
The graphical user interface is more like windows explorer, with drag&drop capabilities and icons. There are a few bugs, but in every release there are a lot of bugfixes. If you don't feel comfortable with the GUI, you can try with the command line interface. A text editor is integrated to it, so you can edit any remote file. It is integrated with PuTTY which can use to connect and operate as a user of the remote machine. This software has probe be useful in a mixed environments which you can have windows and linux machines, or windows clients and linux servers. Bugs always appears, connections reset without apparent reason and file transfers depends strongly on the traffic network. But it still a good and useful software. |
